How to Balance Blocked Feminine Energy

There was a major focus put on equality between the sexes when the feminist movement in business started to boom in the 80’s. Shorter haircuts became popular, shoulder pads made a woman’s shape disappear, and the power suit became a beacon for women’s rights everywhere. We saw women striving to find their position of power in society by abandoning their feminine energy.
Now, I’m not saying this was a bad thing. Generations before us must have felt like they needed to make a bold statement to be taken seriously by a patriarchal society, but the downside was we started to think that in order to succeed in business, women must conform to more masculine versions of themselves. Which in a way, is still giving up our feminine power. It’s like saying, “Yes, all people can be equal, but only if everyone acts more like masculine men.”
Somewhere along the way, we forgot that equality means that all humans should be valued just the same regardless of gender; what it doesn’t mean is that all people have the same innate strengths.
I want to share with you what I mean by this by highlighting the differences in masculine vs. feminine energy (regardless of gender)...
MASCULINE VS. FEMININE ENERGY STRENGTHS
Masculine Energy Traits
Drive, focus, assertiveness, and confidence tend to be seen as more masculine traits that set one up for success in business and entrepreneurship. Divine Masculine energy is consciousness and solid like a riverbank. His thoughts are single focused on goals, the future, security, and protection. He is most identified with his purpose and productivity in the world and loves fulfilling a mission and making money.
Feminine Energy Traits
Traits that are most often associated with the Divine Feminine are things like community, empathy, nurturing, and emoting. She is pure life force energy and flows and changes like the water of a river. She has a diffused awareness, thinking many things at once and she finds details and intricacies that escape the masculine. She is born to receive. She is most identified with her feelings and craves love and connection deeply to feel fulfilled.
BALANCING MASCULINE AND FEMININE ENERGY
The masculine likes to “do”. The feminine craves to just “be”. Now here’s the kicker… we have access to both of these energies inside each and every one of us regardless of gender. We need both to be balanced, but we are primarily born with one dominant energy that feels most natural to us.
I want to be clear though, there is no "right way" to express these energies. It's all about releasing societal conditioning and discovering what's true for you at your core, then embracing it fully, regardless of how people tell you it "should" look.
So why am I sharing this and what does this mean? It means that if you are a more feminine associated person by nature and change who you are to compete in a masculine dominated world, then you lose some of your innate power trying to be someone you're not.
All because we were taught it wasn't safe to be feminine in a "man's world".
It can be hard to soften when you get off work. You can push yourself really hard to exhaustion. Causing you to feel unbalanced, stressed, and stuck. You can become rigid and lose your radiance.
In your work life, burnout is probable when you feel constant pressure to strive and prove your worth and equality.
Holding onto this hard exterior can feel like a mask. It can be hard connecting with others, and you start to see other people as threats.
Not only that but there's a deep yearning and sadness sometimes. Like something is missing, and there's a pain in your heart from not expressing yourself fully.
So what's the solution here to reclaim your feminine power?
There are SO many ways to tap into your femininity and reconnect with the Goddess... but in this short article, I'll just give you a few of my favorite practices to get started.
HOW TO TAP INTO YOUR FEMININE ENERGY
1. Dancing
Dancing can help you get out of your head and into your body. Find some privacy where you can dance as sensually or wildly as you want.
Put on your favorite song or playlist.
Close your eyes.
Take a few deep breaths.
And feel into your body. What sensations do you notice? How does your body want to move?
Hear the music, and allow it to take form through you.
It doesn't matter what it looks like, what matters is how it feels. Allow yourself to move freely.
Follow the movements that feel good.
2. Adornment
The feminine within each of us craves to express and see beauty; both around us and within us.
Decorating your space with anything that brings a smile to your face helps nurture this craving. This can be in the form of art, furniture, plants, or textured fabrics and colors.
Wearing beautiful clothes can also help us radiate feminine energy too. Maybe that means wearing a flowy skirt and sun hat or rocking a sexy pair of skinny jeans with a badass pair of heels. Or maybe you feel fiercely feminine in combat boots and leather. Maybe it means something different every day, and that's okay too. The feminine within us is constantly changing!
Find your own definition of beauty and see how you feel when you express that in your clothing and home. It doesn’t have to mean you wear lipstick every day, but if rocking a hot shade of red allows you to feel like a sexy Goddess then go for it. You make the rules here.
3. “Free Days”
A day of “no planning” is one of my favorite things to do to step into my feminine power. Allowing ourselves to just flow and be in the moment can be one of the most relaxing feelings for a feminine associated person.
At least one day out of the week I schedule a self-care “free day”. This is where I make zero plans and just allow myself to do whatever I feel like from moment to moment.
4. Creativity
The divine feminine in all of us is associated with creative energy and life force energy. Similar to the energy of flowing emotions or timelessness, the feminine craves creativity (the Goddess's womb is designed to create life after all).
Some of the ways I express my creativity are through painting, dancing, fashion, poetry, and crafting. But I know a lot of people that express their art in other forms such as cooking, entertaining, photography, comedy, or gardening.
Expand your mind and see where in your life are you creating something out of nothing simply for the joy of it. It’s a common misconception that traditional “art” is the only form of creativity!
5. Sensuality & Feminine Embodiment
Our bodies hold a lot of power and wisdom. We can connect to our feelings and intuition more easily when we're out of our heads. But first, we need to learn to trust our bodies and feel safe in them. This is why feminine embodiment practices and mindfulness are so important.
One way to do this is to incorporate more sensuality into your daily living. This means intentionally using the five senses to experience life with pleasure.
I love using an essential oil bath as an example. Next time you're soaking in the tub, try this 5 senses practice for yourself...
SIGHT: Set the scene with beauty - tidy up, light some candles, dim the lights, and maybe even sprinkle in some flower petals.
TOUCH: Feel the warm water against your skin, and stroke your arms, body, and neck in a way that feels good.
SCENT: Smell the aroma of your favorite oil, maybe that's lavender, rose or peppermint eucalyptus.
SOUND: Play some soothing tunes, or listen to the water splash up against the side of the tub and drip all around you.
TASTE: Bring in a pleasurable treat, like dark chocolate, wine, or your favorite herbal iced tea.
As you can see, any activity (not just the bath) can become more sensual if you intentionally experience it with all five senses.
BENEFITS OF BALANCING BLOCKED FEMININE ENERGY
When I do these feminine practices regularly, I feel more radiant, replenished, and renewed. Plus I attract my desires more easily. It allows me to use my masculine energy in business without feeling depleted or hardened.
When we embrace our feminine power, we are nurturing ourselves and others. We're reminded of the value of rest, pleasure, and play, so that life doesn't become so dull and grey.
It may seem counter-intuitive, but by developing our feminine energy and slowing down, we can actually draw success to us without forcing and controlling things. We find ourselves naturally hitting goals in ways that surprise and delight us with ease.
When I do these feminine energy practices, I learn there's way more magic and mystery to life than just the hustle and grind. And I'm reminded that I am worthy and deserving of receiving, simply for just being.
